Life is what happens even when we think we are in complete control of our journey.
We are never in complete control of life, maybe parts of our life but not anything or anyone else. Unless you are a controlling abusive person. Not a quality we strive to achieve or marry. If you think that life events cannot affect you, think again.
In reality, life events happen all around us everyday and there can be an immediate impact on us. Looking at this picture and my first official day, on duty, in a new detachment, in a new town, I was filled with hopes and dreams. No idea of what was going to happen! NONE! This picture is a reminder of how far I have come in my own personal and professional journey. Believe it or not I was a quiet introvert.
That curve ball of life events, life lessons made the journey to today a real challenge. Lots of pain, tears and sadness. Speaking up was something I learned out of survival.
Do you ever wonder, if you knew what was going to happen, would you make the same decisions?
We are who we are from our life events, the good and the bad. Along the way we have choices. It is important to remember you always have a choice. Doing nothing is a choice, not effective or empowering but still a choice. It is sad to see people willingly making that choice to do nothing. Our scars remind us where we have been but do not have to define our future.
The choice to keep the lessons not the pain. Those 20 years created the best part of me. Workplace sexual harassment, conflict, discrimination and bullying molded me. I am thankful that because of these life events, I found a way to create the tools and strategies for happiness that I use to this very day. Sharing the lessons, the tool kit for good mental health and happiness. To help you.
I will not modify the reality of my past to make it look ‘good’. Denying our pain keeps us stuck in that pain. I refuse to be stuck or silenced.
Life today is wonderful, taking those life events and turning them into a positive. It is never to late to try something new, to get out of your comfort zone of being stuck at home and in the workplace.
