It is difficult to put into words my own thoughts on this tragedy. From the perspective of life experiences with targeted gender violence, this speaks of a horror beyond comprehension. I would hope that all of society denounces this violence, unites and actively challenges the those who would kill women.
BBC Afghan’s Karim Haidari, in this article refers to Theology graduate ‘Farkhunda, the woman who was killed in Kabul last week for speaking out to the media and confronted one of the mullahs selling charms to childless women at the shrine.’ “Perhaps I feel guilty for being a man. After all, men are the authors of all wars. Or for being an Afghan man. Men in my country inflict similar misery upon women time and again in one corner of the country or another.”
