A woman in public space is not public property

August 12, 2015

Meagan Batchelor a CBC reporter was reporting live from Squamish Music Festival and a man kissed her. She later voiced her shock and dismay at the unwanted kiss. When she asked the RCMP to investigate and  a flood of comments on his behaviour he later apologized.

There is no difference if the gender roles were reverse,no difference in the clothes worn and the workplace. An unwanted kiss is a sexual assault. Check out the criminal code and read the definition. Ask yourself how would you feel being touched by a stranger just because. Public space is not an invitation to be public property.

Many women in other nations struggle with the danger of public space and the harassment they experience daily.   There are  legal boundaries of personal space and we all have our own.  The reporter is allowed to do her job without fear.
