For victims of violence the journey from despair to empowerment is challenging

October 1, 2015

Listening to Maria’s speech yesterday sent a message of hope and courage in acknowledging her own pain along with sincere  thanks and appreciation to the police, paramedics, doctors, nurses, co-workers and everyone who sent well wishes.  She is the face of courage. From despair to empowerment the journey is long and challenging.
“In a speech filled with emotion Wednesday, Winnipeg lawyer Maria Mitousis thanked colleagues and first responders who kept her alive. It was her first public appearance since the letter bomb explosion in July. Mitousis says she remembers everything. She lost her right hand and suffered other injuries to her neck and face. There’s no time for self-pity she says: “I’m just working hard to recover.”
