Silence is a predators best friend!

May 10, 2016

It is sad to see those who were meant to protect us, hide behind a badge. I am always curious as to those who worked with Insp. Tim Shields.  What did they know and when did they know it? In such a closed network of workplace culture I find it difficult to believe that there were no signs of his deviant behaviour or maybe perhaps the behaviour was accepted. I would like to think that had someone said something then perhaps there would have been no victim or fewer victims.  There are more good officers who want to do the right thing but are working in a  bad system where speaking up makes them a target.

“RCMP Insp. Tim Shields has been charged with sexual assault in relation to his time in charge of a communications unit at the force’s E Division headquarters in Vancouver.   B.C.’s Criminal Justice Branch said the charge came as a result from an investigation into sexual misconduct alleged to have occurred between 2009 and 2010.  The alleged victim was a civilian employee who worked with the strategic communications unit.  Shields’ next court appearance is June 27 in Vancouver.  The high-profile officer, who voluntarily retired in December, was suspended with pay a year ago pending the outcome of a Code of Conduct investigation, though RCMP officials noted at the time it was not a disciplinary measure. Shields is also fighting two civil lawsuits alleging sexual harassment.”

Silence is the predators best friend. From my experience as a victim by a RCMP co-worker, he openly bragged about having group sex and video taping it. No one said anything and so his behaviour escalated.

Speaking up is everyone’s responsibility.  Time to heal for the victims.
