Bullying affects how we value ourselves. Bullying such as verbal and physical violence leaves the victim doubting their own ability to speak up. From my own experience with years of workplace bullying and the trauma it is easy to make the connection between bullying and poor life choices. Without positive supports the victim may continue down a spiral of humiliation and self doubt, depression, suicide and this includes relationships choices.
Having the right ‘tools’ can assist victims to climb out that pit of despair. Being able to identify the negative thought patterns and change the course of our life. Sometimes we need professional help of counselling. It can be done. Bullying at school, the workplace or cyber space is a society problem.
Important to remember, none of us grew up with parents who had perfect communication and parenting skills like the experts on TV but that is no reason to have those patterns repeated. Recognizing and being aware of our past can help victims of bullying learn to take back their power by speaking up.
