Assholes: A Theory January 19, 2020 CBC Documentary Channel

December 29, 2019

To find out why pushing back against this type of behaviour is everyone’s responsibility, watch the upcoming documentary

‘Assholes: A Theory’ Sunday January 19, 2020 on CBC Documentary Channel 10pm ET/PT

First you have to know who fits this type of personality. Author and Professor Aaron James explains who is an asshole. If you are wondering about yourself then you are not one. A asshole truly believes there is nothing wrong with them, everyday is like their birthday and life is all about them, a sense of entitlement and with no consequences.

Yes we have all had some experience with the ‘assholes’ in life, at work, school,

in government and in public spaces. They seem to be on the rise. Their behaviour is often excused away. We have seen this in the news with comments such as; ‘oh thats just his way, they are making us money, you have no sense of humour, there must be something wrong with you’

To me bullying/assholes are the same. They wound, use, damage and destroy those who get in their way. Time to learn if you know anyone who is an Asshole? What makes them, why they seem to be everywhere, what happens when they get into a power position, and how to push back and speak up. Bullying destroys victims.

Speaking up about bullying /assholes and sexual harassment in the workplace

If no one says anything then nothing changes. It is everyone’s responsibility to speak up. From my experience, it only takes one asshole to ruin a workplace when there is ineffective and poor leadership.  We can not change people but we can adopt a hiring ‘no asshole’ policy, adopt a ‘no asshole’ workplace. Let us make it uncomfortable for the bullying/assholes in life. Would sending them for counseling and education on respectful behaviour help? Maybe maybe not. However from the experts in the documentary it is unlikely they will benefit.

Sometimes explaining how this behaviour affects others and provide alternative solutions perhaps, they can learn and change.

Fantastic film by John Walker International Canadian Award winning director. A wide range of personalities from writer/actor John Cleese, academics, a retired RCMP officer, activist Vladimir Luxuira, corporate business people and politicians. Each sharing something about assholes in society and life. Based on the best selling book ‘Assholes: A Theory’ by Aaron James.

Keep the conversation going…..
