It was a powerful experience being part of the panel discussion and sharing ideas of moving forward on harassment and bullying in the RCMP. This discussion was a follow up to the report by the Senate Committee of 2013, ‘Conduct Unbecoming in the RCMP’ as well as the settlement of the class action lawsuit earlier this October. It was indeed a privilege to meet and share the panel with Linda Davidson and Janet Merlo who were part of the that settlement.
In order to move forward it is important to have changes in the hiring process, effective enforcement of respectful workplace policies and on going training on identifying and resolving complaints of harassment and bullying in the RCMP. Perhaps we can make the workplace uncomfortable for the bullying behaviours and misogynistic attitudes. We hope that officers of today and future generations are able work in a violent free workplace. Where they feel safe to speak up. There were many creative suggestions but any change and success in workplace culture depends on individuals and leadership. Ask yourself, what does a safe respectful workplace look and feel like to you?
Thank you Senator D. Lang for the invitation to present.
An awesome experience sharing awareness on harassment and bullying in the RCMP.
