From darkness find the light.

March 17, 2016

Have you ever heard the saying “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” I used to hate it when friends would chime that little expression as words of wisdom while I suffered from workplace bullying. It took a few years before I could recognize the accuracy and meaning from that statement. I realized that sometimes when we are in the middle of an emotional mess, for me it was workplace bullying, loneliness and fear, we cannot see the way out or the value of the experience.  We learn the greatest lessons from the most challenging events and people. I think it also depends on our perspective. No judgements on how we look at life because  we all have our own map of reality/ life experiences.

Last week I listened to a radio program where victims of bullying and public humiliation were being interviewed about their trauma. It was heartbreaking  to listen to these brave souls share their trauma but equally amazing was the gifts/opportunities that opened up for each.    Their words of forgiveness  and understanding were powerful.    Would I want to change anything that happened during the years of workplace bullying and violence? Honestly, I really like who I am today, flaws included. I write this blog to provide a ray of hope to those who continue to struggle with workplace bullying.  To know that you are not alone and seeking help and positive supports are a sign of courage. Yes you too can come out the other side to find a place of peace and happiness.  Do I struggle with PTSD? Yes, but everyday I look around and am thankful for the gifts.  Never give up on the beauty of you.
