The unexpected can be a creative challenge!

October 9, 2019

The unexpected  a creative challenge for anyone.  If we trust in our ability.

What do you do when your PP presentation won’t open during a speaking event? Yikes!!

Happened yesterday at my UofW talk on ‘Workplace Conflict’

Professor Stephanie Stobbe and Sherry

It was an honour to be invited by Professor Stephanie Stobbe

(she is totally awesome) to present for her class. I had taken one of her classes about ‘workplace violence’ way back in 2009. Yes I was the only one with examples for every topic! We all want to do and perform our best and as a professional speaker this is important. It is like being an artist or master chef you want to give your best, do your best  and create a positive experience.

holy crap moment

After the initial ‘holy crap’ sinking feeling, I realized that I had an older version of some of the slides, different order and not in the same format for my speech. Another ‘holy crap ‘ moment.

It was a thinking-on my feet as I spoke about workplace conflicts, bullying and sexual harassment.

My speech was informative, sharing tools and strategies on how bullying starts, damage to victims, business relationships, what is effective leadership, impact of bullying on our mental health and how individuals and organizations can move forward. The audience responded positively to the inspiring lessons.

Providing testimony in the Senate Report on Sexual harassment in the RCMP.

The point of this story is to trust in your ability. If you prepare, practice , practice and practice, no matter what happens your message will be fantastic. Enjoying what you do is a reflection in your authenticity that adds to the positive experience for the audience.

Trust in your ability
Trust in your authentic self.

Thankful for the wonderful life lesson day and the fantastic group of students.
