Stress / bullying at work impacts mental health

June 9, 2014

Workplace stress is a killer. The culture of police has never allowed for any type of weakness and anyone admitting there is a problem, well,  that officer becomes a target.  What we see and experience as police officers does not end at the parking lot. For example, the pain of investigating murders, sexual assaults and  car accidents  leaves emotional scars and if there are not proper mechanisms in place for sharing these memories, then this pain becomes internalized. As a result, festering and destroying the ability to live. Perhaps education may lead to awareness and a change in attitude on mental health and ending workplace bullying and the stigma on mental health.
