We all do? No one is immune to workplace bullying. I think it is safe to say that at some point, we have experienced or know of someone who has been on the other side, the target. What is the cost? Ignoring workplace bullying and violence surfaces in work performance, staff turnover, productivity, sick days, stress leave, health care costs, safety and damage to business reputation. History has shown that the RCMP has a problem with the conduct and workplace culture. New leadership new policies and yet the lawsuits continue. WHY?
What is the human cost? It takes courage to speak up against the RCMP who from my experience, has a tendency to crush those who challenge the command and control. Bullying wears down our self esteem and no one is invincible to the effects of long term stress. I know because I have been in the shoes of the victim. If no one says anthing then nothing changes. But people are speaking up and still nothing is changing. That was the reason for writing WOMEN NOT WANTED, to provide awareness and hope for change. The trauma of workplace stress ripples into all aspects of victims lives, their family, friends and for co-workers. It makes good business cents/sense to create and enforce respectful workplace policies and to educate everyone the benefits of a healthy workplace.
