Why can’t I feel motivated? What is wrong with me?
How to get motivated?
How does one as a business owner, get motivated to do their business when you don’t ‘feel’ like it?
Recently I’ve been struggling with that very question and the lack of motivation to work on my business. After a couple of days decided to dig deeper into these feelings!
Anytime I feel ‘off kilter’, emotionally or physically, I take a reflective break. A reflective break and look deeper into me and see what is holding me back, is it the day, is it the events of recent times, or is it something from my past old wounds of negative thinking? Diagnosed with PTSD in 2011 taking care of my mental health is critical so that I do not fall into a deep depression. Often we neglect our feelings of sadness, or lack of motivation and excuse it away. Not a good idea. Be mindful of what is filling your mind because it eventually spills into your body.
I’m glad I did take the time to self-reflect. It was an opportunity, and it is an opportunity to reflect/examine what is important. To be mindful of my original reason for going into the consulting and speaking business. ( which I love doing and helping others find their voice)
At some point in our lives we all feel that sense of doubt – am I doing the right thing, am I helping anybody, is all the work worth it? That’s normal for everyone, not just business owners and sole entrepreneurs.
There is nothing wrong with taking a break in your life personally and professionally if you need it. And only you know when that happens. Ask yourself why wait until you are absolutely burnt out mentally and physically, then take a holiday, to take a self-reflective mindful break? Why wait until you end up in the hospital because of fatigue? It has certainly been trying times for everyone. One thing I have encouraged folks to do for the last several years is being mindful of their self-care and what self-care looks like.
Self-care is something you do for yourself every day. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. It doesn’t have to take a lot of time. Does it mean you’re selfish? It means you were taking care of your mind, body, spirit and emotions. Your self-care tool kit will look and feel different than mine and everyone else because we are beautifully unique. No one can take care of your mental or physical health except you.
Ask yourself what do you do when you’re feeling stressed when you’re feeling overwhelmed when you’re feeling burnt out when you’re feeling no motivation to get out of bed, no motivation to do your work? Do not ignore your feelings.

The last couple of days I have not done a whole pile of work on my business. Working on my upcoming webinar took a lot of my mental energy to get it ready. I’m really excited about this webinar. Getting out of my own comfort zone is thrilling!
The webinar is about sharing the lessons of workplace bullying and trauma with others so that they don’t have to suffer as I did in that long journey of finding, believing in the value and power of my voice. Why would I want you to suffer?

The interesting part about writing this blog on lack of motivation is the fact that I am now feeling motivated. Sometimes we need to step back, take a break, be mindful of what we want at this moment and what the future looks like, what we want it to look like, and how do we get there.
Taking a break, allowing ourselves to pivot from our path, relaxing, self-reflection, self-compassion and self-care are all parts of getting us motivated. Keeping our mind, body, emotions, spirit in good health.
Never give up on yourself. Life is a gift to live with all the tools and strategies for a great happy and successful life.
