Depression can be unseen to the holiday shoppers who merrily buzz around happy in the Christmas cheer. But that is not always the reality for those dealing depression, death of a partner, loss of job or relationship, divorce and illness. From my own experience with depression and loss it seemed unbearable to be ‘happy’. So, I broke the days up into hour sections. Deciding where and how much time I would spend with self care such as reading, exercise, candles, movies, hobbies, painting, coffee chats with positive folks, window shopping, walks outside, family and friends.
It was important to focus on what was positive in my own life. In the end it was okay to be unhappy and along the journey, found a sense of peace that fit with my own experience. Slowly as the darkness fades, see the beauty in all things including yourself and that my friend is happy.
